Welcome to our blog. We’re two Kiwis spending the summer of 2019 exploring Canada by car. Stick around to read more about our adventure!

Need some inspiration for your blog? Just think of Sharon frolicking around the rocks like a mountain goat!

And frollick she did! On the first day we were all together (my sister Hayley and hubby Zac stopped in for a few days, “on their way home” from their European adventure), we spent a day sight-seeing south of the city. We arrived to a beautiful day at Peggy’s Cove, and spent the better part of an hour scrambling over the rocks and enjoying the amazing views. Amazingly no-one slipped or broke a leg, making it to the iconic lighthouse in one piece. We couldn’t have asked for better weather for it, despite Hayley doing her best Keanu Reeves impression.

We carried on south to Lunenburg, and spent the afternoon wandering along the waterfront of Old Town. Lunenburg is super cute with its unique, colourful architecture - it’s buildings cascading down the hill to the sea. We explored the Bluenose II, the replica of a Canadian icon and tribute to Nova Scotia’s shipbuilding heritage (the original is featured on the Canadian dime!)

As is usual when the whanau gets together there was much laughter, toilet humour and games (telestrations is the new fave!). Not since Hay’s wedding had we all been together so it was well overdue.

Another highlight of our time in Halifax was participating in the Blue Nose Marathon Relay, with some friends from Ottawa. Our team of 8 (laboriously coordinated by the wonderful Lisa) was called the Mixed Nuts, and we spent an amazing Saturday afternoon making t shirts featuring terrible nut puns (e.g. I’ll cashew at the finish line and we walnut stop) and carb loading with lasagne (+ beer).

As is usually the case, we celebrated a successful marathon with a pub crawl. We frequented the Old Triangle, the Stubborn Goat Beer Garden and the Lower Deck before I graciously bowed out to return to my family… somewhat worse for wear.

It was great to catch up with my Ottawa faves Lisa & Jensen – can’t wait until we’re all back together for our next running adventure (perhaps in New Zealand!?)
