He Says: Whistlin' All The Way
With less than 2 weeks left in our amazing journey, I would be lying if I said that the prospect of going back to real life wasn’t looming large over my head…organising job interviews, finding a car, trying to sort out a place to live…all good things have to come to an end! All of that aside, we had a great time spending 3 days exploring one of Canada’s most popular tourist spots, Whistler.
We took a gondola up the top of Blackcomb mountain, where you can take another chairlift to get to the “peak-to-peak” suspension bridge that connects to peaks together. We were up on a relatively calm day, and despite the bridge being made of solid steel it was definitely wobbling!
Whister (and Vancouver) was the host city for the 2010 Winter Olympic games, with the alpine skiing events taking place on the slopes in and around the town. Having watched Eddie the Eagle a few days earlier I was keen to see a ski jump in person as its hard to imagine the scale watching it on TV. For $10 you can go walk up the ski jump, take some pictures from the top and enjoy a few trails around the site. Needless to say the 90m jump looks even more intimidating from the top than the bottom…
On our drive down to Vancouver along the stunning Sea-to-Sky highway we stopped at the Joffre Lakes Provincial Park to explore the three lakes. Definitely the most strenuous walk of our trip (for me at least), but the amazing lakes were definitely worth the effort .
